♋ Cancer — ecliptic 90° to 120°

Ninety degrees is both the first degree of Cancer and a square away from 0° Aries. The solstice is an astronomical event; the sign label is the sector that starts at that longitude. A Sun at 90.4° is Cancer even if the clock time of the solstice, in a given year, falls a fraction of a day earlier or later. The engine labels by longitude, then the calendar dates on this page are the usual dates that longitude corresponds to.

The Moon is the ruler, and the Moon is also the fastest body in the sky map. It changes signs about every two and a half days. Ruling Cancer does not mean today’s Moon is in Cancer. Check the dated sky slice. If the Moon is absent from the 90°–120° rows, it is simply in another sector at that hour.

Capricorn is the opposition: center 105° against center 285°, separation 180°, orb 8°. The other cardinal signs, Aries and Libra, are the squares at 90°. Scorpio and Pisces, the other water signs, are the trines at 120°. Taurus and Virgo are the sextiles at 60°, orb 6°. Gemini and Leo press against the borders at 30° and are not major aspects. Cardinal water is unique to this sector. A Cancer sun sign still leaves the Ascendant unknown, and the Ascendant is what sets the Placidus house cusps in the calculator.
